Statement

creating sculptures out of organic materials, to convey an emotion that reflects the dichotomy between hard stones and soft metals, such as fossilized walrus tusk ivory and alabaster.

Biography

Living in Alaska influenced the work of Roland whose kayaks were on display in San Francisco and show the influence of the native traditions. Later he went on to create a pink alabaster sculpture whose form and shape is used in

Alaska to welcome strangers into their village.

Roland combined mechanical and artistic abilities helped him to win a first prize with his creation of a modified 1969 Triumph motorcycle for which the pieces and parts were all hand made. The motorcycle is currently on display in

Northern California. He is currently creating for a special commission two new alabaster sculptures influenced by art from the South Pacific. Roland Also enjoys creating jewelry from natural stones and other natural materials.

Roland studied at the University of Anchorage Alaska and Toronto School of Art in Canada
