Петербургский художник Хан Абдурагимов родился 25 февраля 1951 года недалеко от Баку (Азербайджан). В раннем детстве увлекся скульптурой - лепил из глины, вырезал из дерева фигурки людей и зверей.

После службы в армии, в 1971 году поступил в Среднее художественное училище г. Баку, которое окончил в 1976 году. Там он впервые начал заниматься и живописью. В студенческие годы приехал в Ленинград, который своим контрастом с родным Азербайджаном поразил его воображение. После окончания училища молодой художник поселился в Ленинграде. В 1985 г. закончил Высшее художественно-промышленное училище им.В.И.Мухиной, факультет архитектурно-декоративной пластики. Педагоги – В.Л.Рыбалко, Г.К.Баграмян, А.Г.Дема. С 1985 года – Член Союза художников.

Активно работает как в скульптуре (в бронзе, дереве, мраморе и др.), так и в живописи, участвует в российских и международных выставках и фестивалях, проводит мастер-классы для детей и взрослых. Работы находятся в частных коллекциях в России, Германии, Канаде, Израиле, США, Финляндии.

Горельеф «Литейщикам» на Кондратьевском проспекте, скульптурная композиция «Весна» в одном из пригородов Петербурга.

Approaching art history with a flair for abstract expressivity and a designer's confidence in choreographing fundamentals of color and shape, Schwartz wields a palette knife along with brushes to animate prismatic color stories in thickly applied oil paint. Her Crystal Auras series are opalescent mixed media paintings created with countless layers of acrylic saturated with mica, interference pigment, and natural minerals that glisten like geodes, and bounce light across their auric topographies. Her largest project, Ricordi d'Italia, merges her explorations of the mellifluous properties of color, light, and surface with direct inspiration drawn from travels to Italy. While these paintings still possess the ethereal presence of Crystal Auras, they demonstrate a more formally definitive, architectural sensibility, being derived from photographic source sketches highlighting geometric details culled from vistas and ruins. At the same time, operations of memory, deconstruction, and fantasy combine to render them in an abstract language, producing moody palimpsests and evocative scenic impressions. With Burst, Schwartz's newest collection, we see small, intimate sections of works from Ricordi d'Italia enlarged into wholly new paintings -- gestural compositions whose exotic rhythms are deeply influenced by her studies of Asian Sumi-e ink painting, which reveal their inner lives as she teases their essences forward from within their faceted depths.

Anne Brawer Schwartz is a dedicated abstractionist whose painterly imagination remains grounded in the world of places and things. While pursuing a degree in Graphic Design from the University of Oregon and further studies at the Gemological Institute of America, Schwartz always maintained a painting practice, which she kept up during her 25-year career as a renowned couture jewelry designer. The legacy of her expertise as a designer is apparent in her abstract paintings and their considerations of detail, drawing, design principles, color, texture, and refracted light. Having some years ago rededicated herself to her painting studio, today her canvases have been shown in numerous group shows and are represented in collections around the world. She frequently works with art consultants and interior designers, placing her works in businesses, hotels, private homes, and design firms. Being based in LA, her paintings have naturally also been featured in numerous television shows and motion pictures.

С 1991 года по настоящее время осуществляет первое в истории путешествие действительно вокруг земли - вдоль береговой линии континентов. Является первым обладателем почётного звания «Выдающийся путешественник России» Во время путешествия выполнены многие сотни графических портретов жителей всех континентов. «Портрет не изображение лица, а образ личности» - кредо художника.

«Найдите мне море, в котором можно утонуть» - слова Ницше остаются для меня не менее глубокими, чем само море. И это всегда созвучно с процессом, который помогает открыть нечто, заставляющее задуматься о себе.

Родился в мае 1959 г. Увлёкся фотографией и в 16 лет состоялась моя первая выставка. Из которой вышло более осознанное притяжение к необъяснимой красоте окружающего. Параллельно рисовал тушью.

Мысль в чёрно-белом подвела к чувственному холсту – в 1984г. увлёкся живописью. Акварель, темпера, масло – брался за любую технику, которая отвечала замыслам. Нет и определённого предпочтения в стилистике. Это только ограничивает меня в творческих замыслах.

Работаю дизайнером в области рекламы, полиграфии. Сотрудничаю с компаниями, занятыми в самых разнообразных сферах деятельности. Специалист по брендингу.

My journeys inspire me to search for new form of art. In my pictures, the light is the most important, because it is the symbol of energy and life.

I was born in July 4th, 1967. I was studying graphic in The Fine Arts Institute at Warminsko – Mazurski University in 2003 – 2008. I am working in graphics, oil and watercolour painting, drawing and photography. I travel a lot and I use my journeys to do my works.

I do my art practice at Institute of J. Pilsudski in New York.

I participate in international symposia in Poland and foreign countries .

Nature inspires me, from walking in the Italian forests surrounding Florence, to primordial volcanic landscapes in Japan to hikes in the hills of the Santa Monica mountain range. I’m interested in the natural world that we view and the relationship to the metaphysical space of the inner world.

In my art the idea of journey and process merge – daily drawings that map a mindscape and idea process in automatic drawing that reflects walks in nature and things seen visually in the inner and outer world combining.

My art also encompasses ideas about structure(s), habitat and space shaped harmoniously in a continuous process inspired by musical composition.

Painting is the laboratory where I explore ideas in a formal structure that holds play and whimsy. I’m exploring biomorphic shapes and word compositions which reflect an environment I live in presently that reminds me of my childhood.

Lisa Bahouth studied art at Rhode Island School of Design and received her BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture. The award-winning artist and concert pianist exhibited her work in New York City before moving to Los Angeles.

Her art encompasses ideas about architecture, structure(s), habitat and space shaped harmoniously in a continuous process inspired by musical composition.

As she puts it in her own words: "Painting is my primary laboratory where I explore concrete and vague ideas simultaneously, in a formal structure that hopefully holds some play and whimsy. Although my work has the appearance of abstraction, it is not non-objective; conveying references to rooms, interiors and conceptual spaces. Paintings, drawings and installations often refer to each other as I build upon groups of work. "

In her more recent works, she has been exploring the creation of biomorphic shapes and word compositions merging into an all-encompassing metaphysical style.

Bahouth’s work is currently on exhibit internationally in Japan, Russia, Armenia, and the US.

Hagop Belian was born and raised in Syria until his early teens before moving to the United States. His creative process began while studying at UC Santa Cruz where he earned a BA in Mathematics. Through a lucid dream, he was inspired by a very strong desire to create. He began to experiment with different mediums such as painting, photography and mixed media in order to find an outlet to express his passion.

His mixed media work revolves around finding ?unwanted objects; ? things left behind or considered to be ?junk? by others, and ?saving them? by giving them new life through his creations. His work is rooted in the realm of what is felt rather than what is seen and is an exploration of emotions based on reminiscences of the past. It represents rebirth, transformation, truth and change.

For Hagop, creation is not a choice, but a way of life. He creates in order to share the stories in his soul with the world, through his unique perspective.

Currently Hagop lives in Venice Beach, where he continues to explore his creativity using his intuition and environment as inspiration for his work.

Art is one of the most important elements of my life. Through art, I release emotions and express myself without verbal explanation.

My work explores the impingement of mass media by means of isolation in communication, stereotyping, and the loss of personal singularity, which inadvertently dominates the way we live.

Due to the influences of mass media, people often question their own judgment and live in boxes that isolate them from everyone else. As labels are placed on others, we take a step back in defining our own individuality and our ability to make accurate judgments on our own. I hope to increase social awareness of how people divide others into categories and live their lives in a mold that someone else has created. With labels comes separation, most commonly seen when public venues, such as Starbucks, slowly become places of solitude and privacy, where friendly greetings become unwanted annoyances. Because of this, there is an invisible barrier that we create for ourselves that causes us to question who we are and what we think of others. Not only do we isolate ourselves from one another, we have become co-dependent and bound to various sources of technology. As people live their lives they are contingent upon the use of machines to assist in activities, communication, and overall day-to-day function. Our future generations are born into a world in which simple things such as knowing how to calculate, talking to someone in person, or hand-writing a letter has become obsolete. We have lost our face-to-face connection. Because of this, technology has also created an invisible barrier between humans and nature. In the decision to focus my work towards issues that may be neglected or ignored, I hope to counter the effects of mass media with social awareness.

Kaleeka Bond was born in Virginia and grew up in Southern California. She received her BFA in 2006 and her MFA in 2008 from Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) in Laguna Beach, CA and has been exhibiting her work regularly for 18+ years. After obtaining her MFA, Kaleeka went on to teach drawing and painting at numerous colleges throughout Southern California. She currently teaches five classes and owns multiple businesses, while continuing to exhibit her work. Alongside her husband, Harith, Kaleeka owns and operates an apparel line, Adinkra Stitch.

Influenced by behaviors in society and the impingement of mass media, she hopes to counter the effects of these disconnections with social awareness through her artwork. When interviewed about her work, Kaleeka stated; “Art has a way of opening our eyes to things that we refuse to see. I want my work to compel people to see beyond the superficial and seek the profound, ultimately allowing them to live beyond what they think of as the obvious and understand that individualism and the ability to communicate shape the uniqueness of the world.”

I love to paint and sculpt with a wide range of unique and distinctive materials. I find that blurring the lines between a painting and a sculpture makes you think and imagine what YOU may see. I take pleasure in creating a wonderful feeling in you with each piece I produce. It is as creative for you to view my art as it is for me to create every piece. The key to my art comes from within my heart and soul and you will feel that in every creation that I envision and produce. I put a positive energy and feeling in every piece I create. That way when you take it home, you too will have a piece of my heart and that feeling with you always. Enjoy!

Ione's art has shown nationally since 1998 when, after years of world travel, a successful television, radio, theatre and film career in the performing arts, she decided to focus her richly diverse talents on the visual arts.

Ione's artistic expression, creativity, and passion for communication have resulted in numerous awards for her painting, sculpture, mixed media, and assemblage. Her work has also been featured in several important publications. Ione maintains an extensive exhibition schedule in juried, non-juried, and invitational arts venues.

Ione is an avant garde artist whose artistic expression takes fantastic shape through her diverse oil and watercolor paintings, bronze sculptures, found object collages and mixed media assemblages. Her contemporary paintings and sculptures range from abstract to realistic to impressionistic - all visionary interpretations from her imaginative soul.

Ione uses only one name but a variety of styles to soothe her wild imagination. A native of Chicago, she is a former television star and commercial voice-over artist. Now she wins awards and sells her creativity through her hands instead of through her larynx. Her art is as original as she is - bold, colorful and highly decorative.

I didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t discover art making as a post-career amusement. I was born an artist. I just had the sense early on that I didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t want to make a living by my art. My creativity, growth, learning, and passion are not motivated by money. I am not interested or comfortable marketing my art aggressively or incessantly. Fame and wealth through art are not goals of mine. Though I enjoy showing my art and meeting people, I like giving demonstrations to high school kids best.In between these two things, I love to paint, read about art, go to museums, attend workshops, take drawing classes, and watch demos of other artists.

I retired from 35 years as a high school counselor. I have been a full time artist since 2006. I am self taught. I am a member of a gallery in Fallbrook, and member of four area art groups, the Riverside Art Museum, and a board member of the Riverside Community Art Association. I give art demonstrations and workshops. I also give free demonstrations to art classes in high schools. Oil painting is my main media, but I also do monotype print making.

«Монотипия — для меня это праздник. Моно — один, типус — отпечаток (греч.). — графическая техника, максимально пробуждающая фантазию и интуитивное образное мышление. Визуальная память огромна, а фантазии, зрение и генетическая память дают художнику возможность смоделировать новый условный мир.

Монотипия — это импровизация внутреннего мира в заданной ситуации. А как известно, импровизацию нельзя достать из пустоты. Чем богаче внутренний мир, тем интереснее импровизация. Мы полагаемся на свою интуицию. Интуэри по-латыни означает «смотри зорко». Есть тонкий момент авторского вмешательства — не испортить стихию графического пятна. Безусловно, выручает умение рисовать...»

Self taught. My whole life . I\\\\\\\'v had many Art Shows in Baltimore , DC , La , Seattle, and San Diego. My new Mountain Studio is in Big Bear. I\\\\\\\'v been on TV and radio and Have done a TV pilot on Art . I\\\\\\\'v gotten awards and exhibitions but I don\\\\\\\'t seek these out. I just work on my Art.

To return. To advance. To find the perfect cadence and dance. To redefine landscape and question Nature as a final container. To balance the Seen and the Unseen. To reveal and to disappear. Oils are worked, beaded and interwoven. The message is to locate oneself and in doing so through the process of a journey.

Our identities are defined at birth and continue to evolve throughout our lifetime, depending on where and how we live and the choices we make. Culture and geography determine our identities as much as our own intuitive senses. My dual identity has been a daily fact of life, something that I have lived with since I was twelve years old, when my family moved from Iran to America. In the past two decades I have assimilated and adopted the American culture as ¬my own and consider myself Americanized. Mostly, my dual cultures have been able to co-exist harmoniously, even seamlessly. I speak two languages and have incorporated the best aspects of each culture into my life. The events of September 11th 2001 drastically changed this balanced co-existence and caused a re-evaluation of my identity. In the past several years I have confronted a resurgence of unresolved feelings that had been buried inside of me since childhood. Along with these feelings a new sense of fear and anxiety has emerged in regards to my future here in America.

These mixed-media collages are an attempt to describe the struggles with my own abstract identity; an Iranian-American woman living in the post September 11th society in America. In these collages, the physical reconstruction of the photographs into new landscapes becomes symbolic of the emotional reconstruction of my two selves. Paranoia, anxiety towards the future, nostalgia and confusion are some themes that are explored in this body of images. What emerges from this reconstruction is a tenuous and new identity, waiting to take shape.

Helanes fine art is rendered in a traditionally classic looking style depicting timeless scenes of our Americana lifestyle. She adds a contemporary twist by embedded secret images to both reward the attentive and tell more of the story, making it both accessible, interesting and simply beautiful to look at.

Helane graduated with honors from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California with a BFA majoring in illustration. Her Awards including a Hollywood Reporter Key Art Award in design for the movie Dumb N Dumber. Six gold and platinum records for her album covers of which her California Raisin covers are on display in the Smithsonian, Washington DC. She has also won over fifty local awards. She currently creates the art for the sets of the Disney TV Shows, Hannah Montana, Suite Life on the Deck and I am in the band.

My photographic collages are layers of my reflections and observations, being personal, political or historical.

Like our life experiences, these thoughts accumulate on top of each other, to create my feelings and emotions that get expressed in the artwork.

The layering process coincides with the synthesis of creating visual pieces that invites one to investigate and explore the given information.

Like in previous works of mine, made on glass, the technique and the transparencies in my photographic digital collages are an important part of the art, they emphasis the build-up process and the blending which creates the images.

Vered Galor has been involved with the fine art world as an artist, curator and educator for over thirty years. She received her BA and MA in Fine Art from California State University in Northridge in 1975 and 1978.

Mrs. Galor started her career as glass sculptor. In 1981 she established a business doing curatorial projects and consulting in Contemporary Fine Art.

She lectured, participated in discussions and wrote art programs to encourage the collaboration of Art and Architecture.

Since 1989 Mrs. Galor has been concentrating on photography. She has been creating here own work, teaching photography and showing with galleries in Los Angeles California, Fort Collins and Loveland, Colorado and Las Vegas Nevada.

As a professional makeup artist for many years in the entertainment industry. I love transforming and sculpting faces of every kind, but I often wish I could freeze-frame my work, which some how vanishes with the night. Now, through my passion for working with my hands and creating hot bronze and cold cast bronze sculptures. I am able to forever capture subtle emotion and beauty with the finest detail. I am embracing this process with the utmost wonder and zest for what lies ahead. Now, when people view or touch my work, I am filled with joy and satisfaction that they will be able to enjoy it for a very long time.

I see my work as a body of records of ideas , thoughts and feelings. The creativity manifests itself in a continual process of events that conclude in a final destination and it\\\'s hardly an outcome. As an unknown adventure it takes place within the personal wholeness based on the development of one’s intimate thoughts feelings and possibilities at the given time. Thus artist\\\'s imagination is bound to simplicity and as a rule is in conflict with common sense. An environment free of common sense invokes the abstract qualities of the thought, thereby stimulating a uniquely energized dialogue. To me, each work is a reflection of the self in fragmented way like pieces of a puzzle subject to “solution”.

My paintings are lyrical, atmospheric abstractions that explore those moments when we release our tensions and ease into that clear, quiet space of meditation. They are meant as resting places, serene escapes from our hectic, fragmented, complex world, glimpses of the rhythms and quiet mysteries of our fractured lives and entry points to peace and our search for deeper connection. These paintings, with their subtle complexity, are layered translucently in search of radiance, nuance and depth. They evolve through a process of improvisation, experimentation, revision and intuition.

With a life-long passion for art, Karen Hansen spent 22 years in the field of animation. The film making took her to studios all over the world in a fascinating and challenging industry but painting full time was always her dream. She has done just that since 2001.

Hansen's paintings have been exhibited worldwide in both group and solo shows. Her work can be found in public, corporate and private collections across the United States as well as Europe. She has received numerous awards and commissions. In a Minneapolis “Art for Architecture” competition she submitted a drawing for a manhole cover design reflecting life in the city. Her award winning image was cast in brass and is installed in the sidewalk outside the Minneapolis City Center. In 2006 she was published in the book, Best of California Artists and Artisans and was awarded second place in the Acrylic Painting category. Every year since 2011 each of her entries has been awarded in the American Art Awards International Competitions. Her latest entries placed second and sixth in the Minimalism category in a competition that drew artists from 51 countries. In 2012 she was invited to be included in the book, Best Of Presents America Acrylic Artists Volume I, as well as Sue St. John’s ebook, A Walk Into Abstracts... How Did They Do That? In 2013 she spent three weeks as an Artist in Residence at the Mark Rothko Centre in Daugavpils, Latvia (Rothko’s birthplace). Her work is now in the museum’s permanent collection.

Hansen is a native of Chicago. In 1985, after many brutal winters in the Midwest, she came to the Los Angeles area and fell in love with sun-drenched Southern California. She now lives in Burbank with her husband and her cat.

She is a member of the Los Angeles Art Association (LAAA) / Gallery 825, Women Painters West and a signature member of International Society of Acrylic Painters (ISAP).

SAVVA began his artistic experience in Vasily Surikov’s Art school in Moscow.

From there he was directly admitted

to the renowned Stroganov Institute of Art in Moscow. There he acquired

proficiency in such disciplines as Graphic Design, Illustration, and Production

Processes in addition to continuing his Fine Arts studies.

Upon completing his education, Savva worked in Moscow as an Illustrator, Graphic

Designer, and Art Director for various newspapers, magazines, and a publishing

House. At the same time, he continued his work in the field of Fine Arts painting.

His work was chosen for display at several Moscow galleries,

most notably a single-Artist show at the prestigious gallery Krymskaia Shore

Boardwalk.

He was then invited by the Klasky Csupo animation studio to come work in the

United States as a Development Designer on various television and feature film

projects

Since then he worked in such animation studios as Walt Disney Studios, Warner

Brothers Studios, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Fox Animation and Rough Draft

Studios to name a few.

Savva resumed his artistic career in USA with Apexart gallery of New York in year

2007. Since then he has participated in a large number of shows, which practice

he intends to continue.

My works generally are the result of a continuous refinement of established techniques and experimentation painted on canvas or paper with mixed media materials. Mostly subjects are based on abstracted impressions and memories of different architectural sites I have visited throughout the world. Ancient, and far away places and their unique moods created by light and changing color evoke intense responses and compel me to create my work. In order to capture every mood to my personal satisfaction,

the surfaces have to be superimposed and juxtaposed, creating major and minor accents with some kind of harmony.

I feel that the completion of my paintings is a journey unto itself, of color and feelings. At times I insert snapshots and add

J. Natasha Kostan lives and works in Los Angeles and has been painting in multimedia for the past 30 years. She has studied Fashion and Interior Design in England and Fine Arts and Art History in the United States, and received her BFA from Immaculate Heart College. Her work includes oils, acrylics, mixed media and collage on canvas and on paper.

She studied printmaking extensively under Maurizio Barattucci, a well-known and highly respected artist and instructor. The printmaking process has been an inspiration for developing intriguing primary surfaces and the metamorphosis of Natasha's works on paper. In order to capture every mood to my personal satisfaction, the surfaces have to be superimposed and juxtaposed, creating major and minor accents with some kind of harmony."

Her eclectic style is a manifestation of her multi-hued vision of the world. Her work expresses her experience of living in and traveling through several cultures. "Her palette reflects warmth, balance and strength," said the late Barbara Hagar, California artist, teacher and mentor with whom Natasha studied for many years. Numerous corporations as well as private collectors throughout the United States and England own her paintings. She has exhibited solo and in groups in the United States and Armenia.

My art is imagination of created things which do not exist in everyday life. The purpose of my life - is creation of the fantasies. I was always attracted to science fiction books and movies. I put my images of my fantasy’s creatures in paintings and sculptures.

Faina Kumpan was moved from Odessa, Ukraine as a political refugee. She graduated from the Theatrical Art College in Odessa. In her not very exciting childhood, she was dreaming of other worlds. She was obsessed with science fiction.

Her emigration to New York opens the new opportunities. She worked as a designer and changed a lot of different professions. After moving to LA she returned to her love for art and Science Fiction. She attended numerous classes at UCLA Extension and many private workshops. She exhibited in many important galleries in LA and NY. She creates a fantasy world that is a once surreal and abstract, whimsical and vibrant. Whether creating painting or sculptures, her subjects are mystical creatures from another world, like fantastic figures stepping out of the pages of the futuristic fairy tale. She was participating in many group exhibitions.

She was awarded as a creative artist by City of LA for working together to celebrate Los Angeles as Creative Capital of the world. Her works are in many private collections.

I create because I don't know any other way to live. I have an unquenchable need to give, as though I were a sponge: first I absorb water and then fully squeeze it out. I have a filter which transforms water into an elixir of life. Sometimes I feel that my human soul has unknown, other-worldly genes. Mixing human love and experience, and earthly beauty with other-worldly sparks, I create art. Sometimes I have a vision of worlds where space is perceived differently. I become obssessed with this vision. I cannot sleep or eat. I have different moods like fresh, nostalgic or sad. I need to create what I see. Sometimes I have an idea or thought which I want to deliver to the viewer, and I decipher it in images that allow a sense of my idea to gradually discover itself through its unique aesthetic beauty. I also express my ideas through paintings in which I create am elusive but very alive and trembling spirit or soul which produces associations in the viewer\'s eye. I intend the images from my paintings to penetrate softly into the viewer\'s human soul, below the levels of conscious understanding. I hope that my art will bring love, joy, sincerity and compassion. To paint this kind of art, music helps. In fact, I am a geuine music lover; for me, music functions as if it were resonating through the air to bring me a flow of chi energy. I wake people to life on such a level of harmony. Above all, I encourage them to express themselves through art and beauty.

In my childhood everything started with colored pencils.

In kindergarten, we always got pencils to draw with, but just one. And I always got blue. Having just one color produced in me a love of graphic symbols and symbolic graphics. For me they were visual signs which interrupted space. I was always attracted to the process of drawing itself.

I also had gifts from my father who was a creative man. From childhood he trusted in me regarding serious matters. We discussed the abstract paintings of Kandinsky and the energy his pictures were saturated with.

When I enter my creative state my inner sensitivity and vision sharpens its focus, while everything connected with everyday life fades into the background. At night when I cannot fall asleep I see exciting otherworldly spaces and visions and I hurry to wake up to start working/creating/painting.

The folk culture of Ukraine definitely influenced my art. In Ukraine, they like my work but somehow I felt that my more abstract paintings were not understood and that's why they didn't find places in galleries. Then I thought of sending my work to Latvia and other foreign countries, and was surprised to receive awards and honorable mention from many of them.

In 2006 I graduated National Academy of Fine Arts & Architecture in Kiev, Ukraine with degrees in interior decoration and architecture.

My work is a response to my natural surroundings, but in abstracted and stylized forms, sometimes presenting them as though magnified under a microscope. By using pure vivid colors and abstract simple forms I challenge the viewer to re-examine both my work and nature in an uncommon and atypical way.

I make paintings using thick shiny acrylic paint, squeezed out of a bottle. This series arises out of my immersion in the magnetic force fields of the Mojave Desert where I live.

Dr. Caroline Mercier has taught, designed and exhibited her work for more than 15 years. She spent 5 years in the British Isles, studying and creating new work. Her PhD Fine Arts, specialized in Creative Design is the first one of its kind in the Western World. She now divides her time between teaching full time, designing professionally as well as creating and exhibiting her fine art work.

As an educator, she was granted early tenure at CSU Stanislaus for her high commitment to students and the community. She is presently the Vice-Chair of Design and Technology for the KC ACTF, an organization sponsored by the Kennedy Center, and has been asked to sit on judging panels in Art institutions such as Delta College and Cal Arts. She has been invited as a guest artist in residence in Art Centers in England, Ireland, France and Thailand where she had a silk and painting exhibit in Bangkok. Last year, she was asked to publish work on her last solo textile exhibit in Paris at the Talmart Gallery. This year she studied masks, puppets and weaving in Bali with Alit Bagus, and she’s just back from a master class in Florence Italy, sketching and painting the Renaissance.

I am DRIVEN with a PASSION as if caught in a never-ending spiral of creativity, seeking challenges, problems, finding solutions and, in the end, discovering a coalescing of all my energy into a single material entity--- complete and justified in its existence.

A California native born in Los Angeles, I have always been interested in art. I began creating items from scraps of paper, pencils and found garden materials. Unlike other children who simply picked up a crayon and colored, I studied all possible color combinations with sets of two and three crayons by making charts and then creating designs on paper.

I found the structure of art classes very limiting, therefore, I self-taught by continually mixing mediums and experimenting with different materials and subject matter.

Within the last three years my work has been exhibited in thirteen states and Canada. Many have won awards at these Juried Exhibitions.

Among the words others have used to describe me are: Born artist, mysterious, regal, an inspiration, beautiful, accomplished, gutsy, classy, provocative, courageous, strong, determined, focused, charismatic, a study in extremes, incisive, perceptive and having a flair for the unusual.

\"My approach to photography is trying to capture those beautiful moments that tell a story, relate an emotion or embody a romantic vision no matter if my subject is a bunch of grapes or a young child.

Originally from California, I grew up sailing and being inspired by my father’s interest in photography. At age seven, he gave me an old Kodak box camera where I would set up little dioramas with my dolls and photograph

them in different scenes. My passion for photography was sparked.

After graduating with top honors in Fine Art from San Diego State University, I taught high school art in Carmel, CA before moving to Florida in the late 70’s. I began a 26 year career in the corporate graphic design

arena. This helped mold my sense of design and stay up to date with computer technology. Ten years ago,I decided to go back to my roots as an artist and photographer. Utilizing my computer as a creative tool as well as hand tinting, I manipulate my images

with filters and color enhancements.

Whether my photographic illustrations

represented my sailing trips in the West Indies,fly-fishing in Montana or photo treks through Italy, I attempt to sensitively create a unique expression with tonal painting, selective focus enhancements, hand tinting and layered illustration effects.

Alexander Osipov grew up and matured as an artist in Almaty city in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is a place where roads of ancient traditions of two great cultures as Asia and Europe merge together. Alexander graduated from two classical art schools one of which is Almaty Art School named after N.V. Gogol and second is Kazakh State Academy of Arts named after T.K. Zhurgenov. His philosophy of contemplation and rationality, understanding of antiquity and high technologies was formed thanks to guidance of leading Kazakhstanie teachers and as a result of many years of practice. This philosophy is reflected in unique style of his paintings. First artworks of Alexander were displayed in 1981, and then repeatedly exposed at the exhibitions in Kazak

My paintings at this time of my life are very often abstraction of landscapes. I try to convey more the mood and my perception of color than the contour of the land.

The creative process of art should always explore the new and unknown but revisit the old. In my art-making I attempt to express more than just what I see. I allow the subject to guide me and in return let the colors speak.

Born and raised on the beach in Malibu, I spent my childhood treasure hunting in the tide pools and high tide lines of the sea. I have never given up my love of found objects and take quite a lot of meaning from the things that I find. Now I use discarded objects and unimportant throwaways to talk about important things: social and political and personal concerns that I hope touch and resonate with others. Bringing up thoughts and feelings that lie just beneath the surface to conscious realizations, is my objective in what I do and create.

Having studied and practiced various medium; clay, bookmaking, acrylic and watercolor painting I fell upon my creative gold mine when I attended a workshop with Alexis Smith at OTIS. I had collected found objects all my life but had been completely unaware of the medium of assemblage. It was such an exciting opportunity to meet other assemblage artists and discover a community of like-minded artists. The group 8Women was formed and we exhibited twice as a group at the Helms Building.

I have drawn upon my graduate degree in Art from Cal State University, Long Beach and it has deepened my work and widened my perspective. I have been exhibiting locally and nationally in juried shows for the past three years and recently received an award from Peter Mays of Gallery 825 in Los Angeles.

LINE speaks to the source of art, the very beginning if you will of creation. It is the making of a mark, the capturing of a moment, an essence, a visual reference that a line reveals.

The calligraphy of the line is a reflection of individual will, a unique indicator of purpose and direction. If the viewer is willing, there is much to be read in each line and in their accumulation.

The lines may show strength or weakness, aggression or aversion, consonance or disharmony, dynamism or chaos, poetry or discord, or hint at something else entirely. Simultaneously the lines may be a veil, a screen, a filter that is meant to both conceal and make visible an enigma.

Referring to myself as an \"American Expressionist\", I find that if I need a \"label\" it is with the philosophy of the early Expressionists that I hold the greatest affinity.

Dipping into the vast array of ideas, people, and vitality of my world, I seek a configuration or movement, color or atmosphere that corresponds with my innermost emotions. I use this as my vehicle, bending it and developing it until it speaks for me and meets others with whom it can have a conversation. I am interested in using nature, not copying it. The turn of a head, the wrinkle in a sleeve, the flip of a finger, the transition of a color to another can be unbelievably expressive of attitudes and emotions. I attempt to grasp these as I perceive them and bring them together into a moving and powerful work of art.

I believe that a true work of art transcends time barriers and that an imitative picture with nothing more exciting than correct proportions and acceptable composition will, in very short order, mean very little to anyone. But I think that a true work of art contains an indefinable element that touches a main spring of intuitive response within a viewer and effects a very intimate meeting. It\'s that intimate meeting that I seek when I paint.

I believe that if I have expressed myself adequately, the viewer is invited into the painting. This is my purpose and if I am successful then it is my achievement.

In 1943,at the age of fifteen,Abby Rubinstein began her studies at the art school of the Brooklyn Museum in New York.Having won a scholarship after her first year, she continued her studies with Rufino Tomayo, Joseph Presser, George Pippin, Francis Chris and water colorist, John Bindrum.

She also spent many hours studying the paintings at the New York Museum of Modern Art.She was moved by the color of the Impressionists and the emotions and movement of the Expressionists like Soutine, Nolde, Roualt, and Hyman Bloom.More than anything that she had learned from her formal studies, the works of these artists became of major importance to her throughout her painting career.Unaware of the labels,She was instinctively drawn to the diverse school of Expressionist painting. Over the years her philosophy became more defined until she consciously became an Expressionist painter.

At twenty-three she moved to California where she studied briefly at the Otis Art Institute and with muralist painter, Leonard Herbert. In 1966, she and her late husband, Jules Rubinstein, moved to a small pueblo in Mexico.There they painted for the next ten years and developed reputations as fine artists that brought a steady stream of international visitors and art collectors to their home and studios.

During the 1968 Olympics, they were chosen to represent the city of Guadalajara,s cultural team with an inaugural joint exhibition of their works. In nine days over three thousand people came to view this exhibition.

While structurally abstract, I see my work in landscape terms. Without directly referencing the natural world, I strive within each piece to convey a sense of place and underlying atmospheric presence. I want the viewer to inhabit this space and use it to move beyond the constraints of the rigid, thinking mind and into a visceral experience of color, shape, and movement. Within this realm the concrete and physical fade, leaving only the plane of an inner landscape. This dimension liberates the viewer from the limitations of their critical, overly-analytic sensibilities and instead engages them in a subjective, freely-associative experience.

Mara Safransky spent her formative years in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. She followed her passion for drawing and painting to Rhode Island School of Design, where she earned her BFA.

Today, Safransky works from her Los Angeles-based studio. She is sought after for commissions and her work is held in private collections. Through abstract imagery, her work examines issues of perception and experience, offering a meditative respite from our habitual way of interfacing with the world.

Reaching Inside

I take digital images of architectural structures, objects, landscapes and people. I print the images in repeat on transparent sheets and then after careful arranging, hand-stitch the pieces together to map the making.

My most recent inspiration came from thinking about, \"how we communicate.\" I wanted to expand the idea beyond words to markings, like graffiti that marks territory and lets the viewer know who was there. With this thought in mind, my awareness was heightened and I discovered these, people-made, interesting markings on the smooth bark of some trees in Culver City California.

I took many photos and the imagery was transformed when I printed in repeat pattern and hand-stitched. The shapes suggested body parts, the transparency was like an x-ray and the stitches became sutures that held it all together in this interesting context.

Gwen Samuels is a Los Angeles based artist. Originally from New York, Samuels attended Syracuse University where she earned BFA in textile design. While raising a family, she taught art and co-authored a book teaching classroom skills using the creative process.

Gwen is a full time artist maintaining a studio in Santa Monica. She is an active member of Los Angeles Art Association and is currently represented by: voila! ART FOR THE MODERN EYE.

Samuels present technique began with the purchase of some antique lace at the flea market which she printed on transparent film and began to arrange and hand-stitch. This process led to further investigation using the digital camera, creating multiple prints sewn together by hand, like patchwork quilts, forming compound images that hang unframed on the wall.

Monika Steiner

My work is inspired by Metaphysics and Buddhism. I paint because it allows me to investigate the subtle relationship between perception and material reality. My paintings, influenced by the ever changing nature of life, feature emerging and dissolving spheres floating in empty space as a way of exploring the endless possibilities inherent in appearances.

I contemplate the concept of the interconnectedness of all things until it takes form as an interesting visual abstraction. The work gains richness and complexity as successive layers of paints are added until I feel that a hypnotically meditative and harmonious composition has been achieved.

My ultimate intention is that the space between the painting’s surface and the viewer’s perception of that surface will become a mirror for them to observe the movement of their own thoughts.

Born in Switzerland, Monika Steiner currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area where she received her BFA degree from Sonoma State University. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally in galleries, museums, and public exhibitions. She is represented by Micaela Gallery in San Francisco, Erickson Fine Art in Healdsburg, and Marji Gallery in Santa Fe. Monika paints and sculpts full time.

DUAL PROCESS ARTWORKS:

The Synthesis of Collage and Photo Processing

Understanding the photage process gives insight into the unique abstract images I achieve in digital painting. Photage is not the odd juxtaposition of visual language you generally associate with collage. For me it is an expressionistic, painterly, problem-solving process that begins with finding a rich and cohesive palette of fragments from recycled magazine pages. I then help each piece find its niche based on light and shadow, color, and texture dynamics. This focus on cooperation and symbiosis of parts is what paradoxically imparts a sense of calmness, strength of structure, and serenity in an otherwise very busy environment, a metaphor of my vision for a healthy earth.

"In a future series I expect to explore many more interesting color combinations and visual effects and perhaps create more loose, dynamic photages with more simplified patterns. However, since unpredictable is part of the definition of photage, I will be as surprised as my patrons to see what comes out next," I wrote in a previous artist's bio. Rereading this today, imagine my pleasant shock of realization that I have done just that, but not in the way I imagined. Digital painting has allowed me to push the photage images in the direction my artistic sense wants to take unfettered by the physical limitations of cut paper. I find that the interests piqued by photage, such as experimenting with light and shadow, depth of field, the balance of space, visual porosity of elements, mood and interaction of color, simultaneous micro/macro perspectives, and the commingling of straight lines and curves, can all be indulged using a stylus and powerful photoprocessing tools.

Traditional art training has been an immeasurable benefit in creating abstract depictions of qualities and sensations found in the collages and digital paintings. But while I can draw and paint, I consider myself more a constructionist and have always been inclined towards building, layering, combining found material, and the frugal and resourceful person's excitement in making something new and different out of something else. This seems to be the Nature's way of creating, and these new media dual-process artworks are my homage to and idealization of its many mysteries.

Life-long artist Marlene Struss is a native of California. She received her bachelor's degrees in fine art and social sciences from the University of California Santa Barbara and found the climate, both physical and spiritual, so conducive to creativity that she never left the area. Since that time she has produced a large body of work in a variety of disciplines, including drawing, etching, painting, surrealistic and political collage and, most recently, digital painting. She is best known for the striking collages she calls "photage" to distinguish the unique technical process and the visual effect achieved.

Ms. Struss's collage and photage has been widely exhibited and acclaimed in group and solo shows throughout the United States. She is the recipient of the coveted Independent Artist Award in Collage/Assemblage from Santa Barbara Arts Fund. She is an award winner in the National Collage Society's 23rd annual Juried Exhibition and a juried member of the National Association of Women Artists. Her work has appeared in several publications, including Kennedy Publishing's juried books Best of California Artists & Artisans and Best of America Mixed Media Artists & Artisans. Recently she has been selected by invitation to participate in Kennedy's Best of Worldwide Genre volume.

She started learning and experimenting with digital photo processing in early 2010 using high-resolution images of her photage as starting points. She soon realized that she had a natural affinity for this state-of-the-art technology and the stylus "paintbrush." It didn't take long for the new media artworks to be selected for several competitive group exhibitions.

She refers to these large abstract organic-looking scapes printed on canvas with archival pigment as digital paintings. They are distinguished by their lively fluidity, sophisticated color, impression of dynamic space, and dramatic use of light and shadow. In addition to her experience with layering paper, the meticulous interlacing of layers involved in her new method harks directly back to the layering technique she was noted for in her early etchings. And like all her previous abstract work, she prefers to allow the image to evolve without preconception by means of a series of aesthetic decisions. The beauty and mystery of the final creation then becomes its own message.

I have studied both Fine Art and Commercial Art. Started painting when I was very young - it\'s in my blood. Sculpting has always been a dream only recently have I made it a reality.

I was born in New York City where I studied art in school and privately. My first love was watercolor. I have tried other mediums and still find my way back to sable brushes and fine Italian paper. My dream was to some day sculpt -I moved to California several years ago and began taking sculpting lessons. I have since studied with wonderful teachers and I\'m sure I will continue to seek out new venues to express myself in my art.

Painting is how I connect to others and nature. When I am painting, the world makes more sense, I am lifted up, and all things seem possible.

Colorado native, floral artist Marsha Ubovich, grew up painting. The daughter of artists, she moved with her family to California as a teenager where she continued to develop her artistic talents through group paint-outs and workshops taken at home and abroad.

A former art director and teacher for the San Marino Unified School District, Ubovich holds a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art and a California Teaching Credential. She co-authored the School District\'s visual standards and was recognized for developing a highly respected Kindergarten through Fifth grade art curriculum.

Marsha Ubovich is an active member of the prestigious National Watercolor Society (NWS), American Watercolor Society (AWS), California Art Club, San Gabriel Fine Arts Association, Monrovia Fine Arts, Mid-Valley Fine Arts League and Watercolor West.

Her work has shown at the Blue Jay Gallery in Blue Jay, Colorado, the Aztec Gallery in Monrovia, Focus One Gallery in Monrovia and the Crain Art Gallery in San Marino.

My work is consistently inspired by an interest in the natural world and the collision of that world with the world of architecture and human beings. There is no literal reference to these influences. However, there is an emotional reference, distilling and merging the elements that make up the complex landscape of our modern experience whether urban or rural. The people, places and things that reveal themselves are nonspecific and yet perhaps are recognizable as something known or remembered. like that name or that word you struggle for on the tip of your tongue. A non-pictorial representation that is deeply intimate and suggestive, where the tug of sensation comforts, or pinches, stirring up emotion and memory: mind photographs that reflect everyday life and the way it impacts one: sunlight and shadows: stillness and movement: sound and quiet.

The pieces themselves are created from water mediums and other mixed media on a multitude of surfaces usually in series. I begin by laying down a gesture, which leads to color, shape, and form until something in it moves me, like a Rorschach inkblot but infinitely more subtle. Images are built layer by layer through translucent color washes, scumbled paint, markings and collage made up of bits and pieces of cast off materials that enrich the surface to reveal a lyrical, magical and often mysterious world.

A native of southwestern Michigan, Stephanie Visser relocated to sunny southern California. Educated at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids Michigan. She continued her education in fine arts and painting at Western Michigan University and Pasadena College of Art and Design working with artist and painter Mary Winterfield a well-known painter and educator.

The work is the statement.

I began painting in 1980, first in gouache, then in acrylics. I am most interested in depicting what Alan Watts called the mystery of the ordinary; the workaday world we live in without seeing until we are forced to focus upon it, as in a painting.

Nearly all my paintings are based on photographs I have taken, primarily of Southern California scenes, over the years. Though it was never my intention to depict nostalgic scenes, many of the images I have painted have disappeared or been radically altered in the ever-changing landscape that is Southern California. Thus nostalgia is thrust upon the works. But the distinctive light remains, which is what I attempt to capture in my painting. That, and the built environment that we humans inhabit, where nature manifests itself only in weeds and palms emerging from cracks in the hardscape, and the smooth blue sky.

Phyllis Lutjeans, Museum Educator and former curator, has said of my work: ?Although Michael Ward may be called a neo-realist painter his work can ultimately be described as abstract realism. The picture image is photographically realistic, but within the context of the painting his compositions are complex and almost abstract. Deciphering the work section by section one sees how a multitiude of individual complete compositions are put together to form the entire work. For me the viewer is confronted by a realistic image that puzzles us and clearly tells the story simultaneously.?

THE ZEN OF THE LAND

unites a visual trilogy of country people, their landscapes and lifestyles in humanist, spiritual, pictorial harmony. Willat brings a centered, thoughtful and organic approach to photography and to the living of a purposeful artists' life. The serenity in her images is both pensive and evocative; mirroring her contemplative intellect and ebullient personality. The artist’s best works percolate with a Mandala-full of life forces that emanate from her subjects, which she shoots in situ. Her most interesting pictures linger in the mind's eye. They move the viewer into spaces where we breathe deeper and slower- harmonizing with those who inhabit the visual world that Willat creates.

“I can get lost in the moment. The shutter seems to click on its own when I'm fortunate enough to capture someone at one with their environment. My favorite shots are not portraits and they’re not landscapes. I like to shoot people going about the living of their lives within their lands. They become defined by how and where they live. That’s what I’m known for.”

Jemmaa El Fna, a cityscape of Marrakesh’s town square, is a pageant of humanity where horse drawn carriages, push carts and shoe shine stands are readying the famous marketplace for day’s end. It perfectly expresses the interchangeability of Willat’s desire to characterize those she shoots by the places they inhabit and to portray these places by the persons who populate them.

Felice Willat is an award-winning travel photographer and publisher, whose images from Burma, Morocco, China, Vietnam and Argentina, capture the beauty of the human landscape across cultures. Willat's photographs have been juried into the Los Angeles Center for Photography, Photo LA, Photo Independent, TAG Gallery, Bergamot Station, the Brand Library, Glendale, CA, and numerous other venues across the United States and in London, UK and Italy.In 2010, Felice won First Prize, for her Travel images in the Southern California Council of Camera Clubs’ annual juried exhibition. In 2009 Felice published The Quiet Between, Song of Burma, a book of photography and poems.

Felice sees her camera as providing a sense of time expansion and stillness. She says, “I could capture a moment, something sacred or commonplace, an unconscious gesture, a tattered clothesline, a red plastic pitcher, or a worn prayer book. I like to leave the familiar, travel to far-away places, and find the gift of really being present.”

My work is based on an infatuation with the mechanical processes of communication, imaging and production. I am also interested in amassing layers of images to illustrate an accumulation of accidents. I tend to use reference materials taken from magazines, on-line sources and my own photography. I have an interest in the universal look of instructional information and create graphics appropriate to this predilection. I use techniques that imply the removal of the artist\\\\\\\'s hand and suggest the depersonalised processes of automated assembly.

I was born in the United States but spent my formative years in Indonesia. I have studied painting and printmaking at Texas State University before moving to Thailand to teach art. I continued my studies while I was living and working in Los Angeles, CA. I recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art and am current working on a Masters of Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art & Design, London.

These painterly collage pieces are a continuation of my Beach Rock painting series. I was initially inspired by rocks on a deserted beach. Submerged in water, they reminded me of strange creatures pulsating with spirits, and inspired me to reimagine them on my canvas.

The idea behind my collages was to bring out the mysteriousness I felt about these rocks and make their strangeness even more vivid.

Each collage piece has several vignettes generated in the process, either intentionally or incidentally. They are like mini dramas within a bigger show and, when viewed as a whole, meant to heighten surreal feeling.

The way I see and express nature might have been influenced by shamanistic spirit that I had witnessed as a youngster in my old country.

Young Yun Summers is a Los Angeles based artist. She was born in Korea and came to USA as a high school student. She inherited a love of art from her family and always knew she would be an artist.

Majoring in design in fine arts, she earned her BFA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and worked in retail advertising for many years. However, her passion to be a serious fine artist was not pursued while she was working full-time and raising a family.

After her son went off to college to study piano, she finally decided to fully commit herself to art.

Young started out painting her favorite subjects, such as her family, trees, rocks, things in nature. Then, she began to incorporate collages, as a way to enhance her paintings. Soon the painterly collage took over and became her signature medium, garnering great responses and awards. Lately, her collages have become more sculptural and experimental. Finding beauty and harmony in most unexpected way from items soon to be discarded, while reducing waste and recycle are important aspects of her artistic life.

I focus primarily on the human form and the places that play major roles in people’s lives such as landscapes and architecture. Eliminating unwanted details help me in setting a mysterious mood within my pieces. I feel colors as well as pencil, therefore, I paint and draw,too.
