My paintings informed by a combination of personal history, fantasy and mystery. Most recent work focuses on documentary portraiture where I explore cultural identity and each character.

I’ve always been attracted to religious paintings of the 15th century Flemish and Italian Renaissance artists. Their iconic, intimate compositions, the stoic expressions and understated gestures, the gracefulness of the forms, all rendered with a perfect balance and exquisite technical execution all speak to me of the enduring power of beauty to transcend context.

My multicultural background has given me insight into understanding our world. As a teacher I seek to inspire my students to accept other cultures, and to explore ways to incorporate visual art, history, and current events into our life. I belief that differences are to be welcomed not rejected.

Fatima Azimova

I was born in in Uzbekistan, a former USSR country, in Tashkent City. My childhood was during the Soviet Union era. I grew up in a middle class family with multicultural parents of Uzbek and Armenian origins. From my early childhood I was exposed to an extreme diversity in cultures which played an important role in the feature development of my artistic vision. Since I can remember, I drew on every surface I could get my hands on. My Mother used to say how the walls in our house were covered with my drawings up to my height so anyone could see how tall I was. There was never a question of who I wanted to be when I grew up, art is not what I do but who I am.

"Dance with me" series is the latest artistic endeavor of Shahla Bebe to capture dancing motion in the form of Digital Art.

Diversity of dancer’s body movements, colorful flowing costumes, light and shadows have been combined to created unique mystery art.

The images have been taken in the most expressive moments of dancer’s performance in front of a live audience. A collaboration of Shahla Bebe and various Southern California dance companies and their ensemble casts.

Shahla Bebe is an award-winning photographer, was trained in graphic art, photography and post-production.

By 1996, photography had become Shahla’s profession and passion. Her life experiences led her to fine art photography as the best medium for artistic expression. Shahla has maintained a keen involvement all throughout in different groups and organizations dealing with political and social concerns. She believes that the Digital Art creates unique and powerful means to speak about issues that torment or exhilarate her.

Shahla Bebe’s Digital art as well as photography has been on display in various group exhibitions in the States, Canada, and Europe.

Walter Paul Bebirian, a world-renowned photographer/artist, has been creating works of art since 1958.

Art has called to me as my expression of the things I perceive but cannot say. At first when I climbed the Catalinas in Tucson or the Rockies in Colorado, I sat on precipices, and gazed over the trees and rocks; my painting was a substitute for the camera I could not afford. Soon I found a meditative state in my visage, seeing not only the rocks and trees but other things. This was the birth of my connection with nature. Over 40 years ago, looking and using my eyes to fondle the landscape became my mantra for future paintings. The process of painting while backpacking limited me to watercolors. These were easy to carry, use, and light. So watercolor became my medium of choice out of necessity. I’ve improved my techniques, and find watercolors offer that piece of uncontrollable mystery that makes a painting unique. I inadvertently put the horse before the cart with my training in art. Raised in a family of purpose driven people, career choices had to do with earning money and not expression of artistic ideas.

On the weekends, art was my release, my place of respite. Why do artists create? I can answer with another question: what is creativity? But the essence of all of us, for me it is the string that lingers inside our communications, it sparks the mind from the hum drum of churning. Art can be a little bump that makes you feel the road.

My project, “California Oaks as Art”, is an artistic expression of the beauty of the oaks, and a historical, environmental catalog of their stories. Yes, there goes that goal driven orientation. Yet on a deeper level the oak tree of California, although one of the most common trees, it is also one that is very unique to its climate. It is everywhere, and even in some places considered a weed. It pops up and takes root and before you know it, those leathery leaves are all over your yard. Common but not so common. This project has taught me so very much about the California natives. We study Indians and early people of California, but not much is known about its early oaks and current oaks. Like my backcountry experiences in the Desserts of Arizona, and the mountains of California, there is a richness of nature that cannot be described in words. One quote I like about nature and the new generations, is that how can you expect someone to care about nature, if they have never experienced it? To describe sleeping under the stars, hearing the wind through the pines, smelling the morning dew of a meadow, tasting the clear clean water from a spring, and sitting under an oak, are all sensual and transient. Understanding the role oaks have played in history, in ecology, and their uniqueness is one of the goals of my art project. On one level, I want the audience to walk away and say, I never knew this about the oaks, I think I’ll take another look at the oak in my yard, I want to visit this oak, or on another level; although I am one of many like the oak, I have a unique story, nature is a common denominator, under the surface there is more, the roots of each being are what make them unique.

My project has stimulated conversation both in writing and in conversation. I have had an article in the California Poppy, a publication of all the California Garden Clubs. The President has contacted me and asked for a follow up article on the oaks and their stories. I have presented a short slide show to the Los Angeles District Arboretum in Arcadia. This exhibit has been shown in Thousand Oaks Community Gallery and received a lot of positive responses. I have even been commissioned to paint a significant oak tree at Caltech. The grand Engelmann Oak is fading and I was commissioned by Caltech to paint it as a memory of how it once grew. This painting is now on display at California Institute of Technology.

My paintings themselves represent my journey through painting and expression. I have found some of the oak trees are quite plain and have decided to use an unusual technique such as Chinese Brush Painting to make the tree more interesting. As in the case of the 13,000 year old Palmer Oak, it is a low growing scrub oak, which is far more interesting when I painted it using Chinese Xuan Paper, Chinese Brushes, and Chinese Paint. This painting has won many awards which leads me to believe that the medium helps to spark the interest in the subject. I use watercolors which are my first love for most of the works, sketches, and preliminary paintings. I have created oils from the watercolor studies which are in this exhibition.

My style of painting is what I call environmental impressionism. There is an overt goal to encourage appreciation and knowledge of California’s Oak Trees, and there is a subliminal goal to see the limbs of the oak as we see the limbs of our own bodies. And how can you not love your own limbs.

Presently painting abstracts on canvas using acrylics. Other art work ranges from painting on silk using French dyes, mix media using found objects, drawing with pastels, photography when time allows and creating wall hangings by manipulating fabric in various ways (was a member of the Missouri Fiber Artists until September 2014). I simply love the creative process - whether starting with a blank canvas, a blank sheet of paper, a piece of fabric and ending with a wonderful work of art!

Have been creative as long as I can remember. Received a BA in Fine Art 1980 from UMass Boston. Additionally, I have taken silk painting classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York City in 1997. Have done many arts and crafts venues over the years. My art work has been exhibited in MA, NY,and MO. Since retirement, I have been free to create more art uninterrupted. I was one of the founders of a Women's art gallery in St. Louis, MO, 2010. I am now looking forward to experiencing the art community here in the California area.

Highly influenced by artists like Hopper, Warhol, Lichtenstein, and Diebenkorn, I paints multicultural urban Los Angeles with all its contradictions and poetry.

I am trying to blend my classical European artistic background with contemporary conceptual approach. In the LA urban environment I am looking for and finding manifestations of eternal human values, such as love, faith, longing, and the strife for a better life. I try to see real people and their life through the facades of the buildings depicted with much love and connection.

A few words on Toy (Model) theater. Traditional Toy theater emerged in the 19th century across Victorian Europe and America, when revolutions in printing made possible the creation of printed backdrops and characters. Today, the love of miniature theater is not just a nostalgia. There are hundreds of theater and visual artists, filmmakers and puppeteers from around the world who create wonderfully complex work with a fresh approach to an old art form through literature, art, staging, film, music and much more.

I create Toy (or Model) Theater miniature shows and perform them on a table size stages, in side of 20" X 14" prosceniums, window frames, shoe boxes... Often I represent my work under the name of "Microscope Toy Theater" which explains my occupation as an artist just perfectly: "microscope (from the Greek) is an instrument to see objects too small for the naked eye"... Sounds like a metaphor yet a truth about miniature: the model scale performance may reflect a contemporary life through visual "dialogue" with the audience on bigger than life events.I believe, this is a magical kind of performing arts where the spectators are very focused and amused by the scale of the two dimensional paper sets. In fact, the audience becomes a part of the miniature universe.

Yulya Dukhovny is a Russian/Israeli artist, lives in Long Beach. She started her career as a classic pianist. 1990 - 2006 she lives and works in Israel. Composing original scores for theater and film, she has been awarded "Best Theater Composer of the Year" at the 1999 Fringe Theater Festival in Israel. In 2006 Dukhovny moved to Los Angeles.

She has also engaged extensively in opera as Associate, Stage and Assistant Director for Franco Zeffirelly, Giancarlo Del Monaco, David Pountney, Manfred Belharz, Jean- Claude Auvrey, Peter Sellars and Bill Viola including work on more than 30 European and US opera productions. 2002-2005 Dukhovny was Stage Director for Young Opera Studio Programs and led the summer workshops (including "Model Theater: from designing to performing") at the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. From 2010 Dukhovny focuses on Toy (Model) theater medium. She designs and performs solo miniature shows and Model theater installations under the name "Microscope Toy Theater" through festivals, galleries, museums. Her work incorporates object based performance, video, traditions of paper theater, physical theater techniques, original music. Among Dukhovny's venues: International Toy Theater festivals in France, Germany, Russia and Mexico as well as 10th "Great Small Works" Festival in New York, "On Edge" Festival of Contemporary Performance, Santa Barbara, Detroit and Connecticut Institutes of Arts. She is a resident artist at the Meyerhold Theater in Moscow. MA in music

** Galina Kovshilovsky’s paintings derive from her Russian origins. One feels the breath and wildness of a massive country and yet the simple handy work of it dedicated population. Galina’s paintings capture the sprawling epic about the erosion of tradition with visually striking exploration of color in its infinite variety and vitality. Her painting, be they large or small, capture the imagination with visually stunning Swirls and movement of the eye, emotion and the imagination. We are left breathless with the fascinating lovingly layered colors where the rules of organized thought clash and intersect with rituals and beliefs. We are moved. We are coaxed. We are seeing and drawn into a study of inclusiveness always before us.

My photographs are not generally planned in advance, and I do not anticipate that the onlooker will share my viewpoint. However, I feel that if my photograph leaves an image on the viewer’s mind, something has been accomplished.

Born in Paris, raised in Tehran and Boston, with a little over 2 years of dormancy in Lisbon, Armineh is an

iPhoneographer now based in Los Angeles, capturing moments since 2009. She is one of the early members of

the iphoneography movement. She has had no professional training however her vision has been the driving force behind her creations. She also shoots with her DSLR camera. For the time being, photography is a hobby.

My work is exclusively devoted to photographing reflections on windows. I build on the long history of photographers, like Eugene Atget, who used reflective surfaces in their images. Atget’s reflections included the window frame as a point of reference. But for me, the image is the reflection itself. The frame is gone. An interplay between fantasy and reality emerges creating an other-worldly quality to the work.

I’ll walk for hours on the streets of cities like Paris, Los Angeles and New York, and not take a single photograph. I’m on a visual treasure hunt looking for "found" reflections. Then I’ll spot a complex reflection on a window, get captivated, and start photographing.

Part of the power of the photographic medium is the “illusion of reality”, the assumption that photographs are pictures of things from real life. In this age of layered, manipulated, “Photoshopped” images, I am dedicated to capturing reality through the un-manipulated “single exposure”. My message is: the world is a visually complex place and we can explore the many layers of life through the apparent layers found in reflections.

Over the past 40 years I’ve worked in many media, among them sculpture, oils, watercolors, glass, collage and construction. The type of photography I have done for the past 15 years combines a great deal of what I’ve learned from these media, particularly collage. The most exciting thing to me about my work is its direct connection to reality – the capture of a moment in time.

My art is imagination of created things which do not exist in everyday life. The purpose of my life - is creation of the fantasies. I was always attracted to science fiction books and movies. I put my images of my fantasy’s creatures in paintings and sculptures.

Faina Kumpan was moved from Odessa, Ukraine as a political refugee. She graduated from the Theatrical Art College in Odessa. In her not very exciting childhood, she was dreaming of other worlds. She was obsessed with science fiction.

Her emigration to New York opens the new opportunities. She worked as a designer and changed a lot of different professions. After moving to LA she returned to her love for art and Science Fiction. She attended numerous classes at UCLA Extension and many private workshops. She exhibited in many important galleries in LA and NY. She creates a fantasy world that is a once surreal and abstract, whimsical and vibrant. Whether creating painting or sculptures, her subjects are mystical creatures from another world, like fantastic figures stepping out of the pages of the futuristic fairy tale. She was participating in many group exhibitions.

She was awarded as a creative artist by City of LA for working together to celebrate Los Angeles as Creative Capital of the world. Her works are in many private collections.

I paint what touches me most. Something in my life or in the world around me that moves me deeply. It may be joy or it may be sadness and worry.

Just painting what I feel brings me closer in touch with who I am and what I feel, it helps me process what I might not otherwise understand or be able to digest or let go of.

My artwork always had to do with feelings, my feeling about the world, people, and my relationship with them. I always have put it on paper since I can remember.

Like the feelings between mother and child, that are our most complete bond, or portraits of an emotional mood, that seem to come just out of me when I feel a certain way and sit down with a brush and canvas, to capture the emotion.

Regine Legler Bio

Regine Legler was born in Berlin, Germany during the last days of World War II.

Her first exposure to art was a dark, brown door her mother allowed the family to draw on with chalk, which Regine did frequently. Everything was a canvas, including her schoolbooks, which lead Regine to her first commission; being asked by her fellow classmates to help them with their homework assignment to draw Napoleon.

Regine’s formal education in fine art started at age 17 when she enrolled at the Staedelschule in Frankfurt/Main Germany. There she began a two-year study of figure drawing, portraiture, landscape and still life under Walter Hergenhahn, a student of the renowned Max Beckmann. Later, she underwent three years of intensive study in oil painting, acrylic and watercolor at the Freie Academie in Mannheim, Germany.

In her early years, Regine drew and painted scenes of dreams and emotional situations in a style called Fantastic Realism. Then, in 1994, her interest shifted to wildlife and American Indian scenes. Today, Regine’s style has evolved from Fantastic Realism to a more realistic and personalized technique to create a very bold look and tone to convey strong emotions.

Regine holds juried membership at Women Painters West, Southern California Women Caucus of the Arts, Venice Art Forum, and has taught college-level classes at Santa Monica College and the Fashion institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.

I like to make pictures that explore the inner life. The physical works are expressions of a life within my life. They are also a way I can connect directly with people through their eyes.

The core of my work is a search for beauty. When I find it, I feel gratitude. This experience of gratitude is, for me, the heart of my worship.

I use a camera and Photoshop, mostly, to find my images these days. I experience them first on a light screen and they evolve there. Some of my pictures are transformations; photos of natural objects that I import into Photoshop and some I build from scratch there.

My pictures are closely connected to music (particularly as they relate to harmony). I vertically stack and blend layers, typically using 10-20 layers

in a piece.

I've also discovered a new way to work. As my pictures evolve, I save history states and create new starting points from them. They are like branches extending from the main trunk. These branches are developed in parallel with the original image. I can move motifs back and forth from one file to another and I finish with a family of pictures with a similar essence.

Three recent families I call "Angels", "Light Chord" and "Light Wave".

There are a number of wonderful tools in Photoshop which allow me to generate waves, morph between rectangular and polar coordinates, build spheres and spirals, etc.

My art is opening into a new world today. I find my inner feelings and visions reflected there.

I made pictures from the time I was the tiniest child my parents tell me. Since a career as an artist wasn't honored much in the 50's in America (the two words most associated with artists at the time were starving and crazy), I studied chemistry as a possible career path.

My love for art unexpectedly reawakened in my sophomore year in college and I knew then that my calling was to the senses, particularly to beauty in art and music.

I studied art at the Art Students League in NY during my vacations and went on to get a Masters Degree in art from the University of Hawaii.

I was briefly a partner in a gallery in Greenwich Village in the 60's and moved from there into a 30 year career, designing home textiles.

In evenings and on weekends I pursued my personal art which evolved from painting into photography and then to the digital dimension.

I license some of my floral and leaf images into posters through Editions Limited.

I live in Badger California in the foothills of the Central Sierra. It is a small community of cattlemen, small farmers, semi-retired world class scientists and spiritual devotees.

It is near a spiritual and educational retreat center called Seven Circles Retreat which I helped establish as a manifestation of my spiritual practice which is called Subud.

I expect to see my little town of Badger develop into a "learning community" for new arts, agriculture and science in the future (a probable impossibility). A community that integrates human life.

My Photography Collection are images that I took on my trips to Europe, California, Florida and the Hamptons. Some of these images were feature in my book Dream Gallery II. And my Inspiration Collection was exhibited in the Hamptons. I love to take photograph of the most beautiful places. As you can see in my facebook page.

Ivi Navarrete is the owner and chief designer of Epiphany Designs, Inc, An internet jewelry business. Founding this business followed a ten-year career in finance working for Fortune 500 Companies.

Navarrette's Epiphany International has exhibited her collections in New York, the Hamptons and Hollywood since 2006. She was featured in April 2012 by the East Hampton Star, the Hamptons Art Hub, and The Independent for her exhibition at the Art Groove Exhibition at Ashawagh Hall.

An accomplished poet, Navarrette has been published in London, Spain and the USA. Her poem “Lord Help me Triumphant in Life” was selected as one of the best poems in 2004 by the International Society of Poets in the US. This poem was distributed around the world as part of a CD in a Unique Collection of The Best Poems of 2004.

Also, Ivi is the author & producer of Dream Gallery Books; a series of 4 unique books that took Ivi a year to complete. Finally, the last book was released in April 2013.

Involved personally with many society figures she has been invited and has participated in several high end events in New York, the Hamptons and the West Coast. She was featured in January 2010 by the Diversified News in Los Angeles, and in April by the Examiner.com, an online paper in Los Angeles.

Also, Ivi started a Production company in 2013, and she had completed five films. And two films are in Pre-Production in 2016.

Art is my way of life

Mark Pol, born 17th October 1943 in The Hague has found an early passion for painting. His interest in drawing and painting started in primary school. And later on he went to the Photo Academy followed by the Free Academy of Art led by George Lampe, both in The Hague.

The work of Mark Pol, also shown on his website (http://www.markpol.nl), is in essence inspired by daily human life, without losing its vulnerability and the animal unpredictability. Despite the timeframe the painting or drawing might seem to be in, humanity is key in his work.

In the early stage of a painting, Mark Pol draws his thoughts and dreams with a pencil and then continues his vision with a basis of oil - or acryl paint on canvas. The expression of Mark Pol are often too much for the two dimensional canvas and the result is a three dimensional world, shown in different materials.

Jane Serebrenikov’s narrative graphical art works reflect her deeply lyrical and uniquely poetical vision. All her life she is interested in visual art and, grown up on fairy tales, combines magic, vivid imagination and sense of humor in her art works. She also inspired by the arts of Mark Chagall and Reno Magritte.

Jane is started etching 5 years ego and has been taken part of several exhibitions. She sold her arts nationally and internationally. She makes aquatint etchings. This is where the plate is immersed in acid and the lines and tones achieved when the acid “bites” the areas which have not been masked. Than color applied manually and print on printmaking press. Each print is unique.

Jane was born in Moscow, Russia and immigrated to Los Angeles in 1995 with her family. She graduated college as a graphic designer, holds AA degree and contentious working in printmaking studio.

Marilyn has never taken a lesson is painting. She just started painting in 1993 and the images flowed from her hands. She calls her art, Art beyond the Brush. 23 of her paintings adorn the walls of a medical clinic in Osaka Japan and has been featured in many magazines in Japan including, Star People magazine. She has traveled worldwide and spend time in Japan teaching about unconditional love and Reiki healing. Marilyn is a Reiki Master, Sound Therapist and has created 5 Cds for meditation and balancing the Chakras where her artwork can be seen on the covers.

Her art book was released in 2006 in Honolulu Hawaii. She was interviewed on Television on KHON2 morning news in Honolulu, seen on Heart Touch in California, and Guided by Spirit in Honolulu.

Besides all of these gifts, she is known as a third generation Clairvoyant Remote Viewer . Seen on Best Physics Directory. She has read for many people by phone and in person internationally.

Her art is referred to as Energy Paintings beyond the veil, and her new book soon to be release is called Art Beyond the Brush. Marilyn with no formal training, just sits down, gets out of her way and proceeds to paint what she sees in her minds eye and on her canvas.

My paintings come out as attempts to "translate" from ideograms and fantastic hieroglyphs that I see in the patterns of nature, most often in the tree bark.

It is like listening to a song in an unknown language. Everyone will have their own guess of what the words might say, but the main theme of the song will be recognized.I am so thrilled by the moments of gazing into the patterns of nature when intuition gives a glimpse from the world of archetypes. I think that trees are books and libraries that can be read, perhaps as well as any thing around if we attune to it…

My paintings are sort of "snapshots" from the process of reading the Book of Nature by the mind;these "snapshots" are somewhere in between the imagery and the language.The mind projects meanings onto the shapes and lines, but they are being reflected back, startling and puzzling… there is always a sensation of a mirror dialog, of having been "read" yourself by the Book of Nature...

These painterly collage pieces are a continuation of my Beach Rock painting series. I was initially inspired by rocks on a deserted beach. Submerged in water, they reminded me of strange creatures pulsating with spirits, and inspired me to reimagine them on my canvas.

The idea behind my collages was to bring out the mysteriousness I felt about these rocks and make their strangeness even more vivid.

Each collage piece has several vignettes generated in the process, either intentionally or incidentally. They are like mini dramas within a bigger show and, when viewed as a whole, meant to heighten surreal feeling.

The way I see and express nature might have been influenced by shamanistic spirit that I had witnessed as a youngster in my old country.

Young Yun Summers is a Los Angeles based artist. She was born in Korea and came to USA as a high school student. She inherited a love of art from her family and always knew she would be an artist.

Majoring in design in fine arts, she earned her BFA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and worked in retail advertising for many years. However, her passion to be a serious fine artist was not pursued while she was working full-time and raising a family.

After her son went off to college to study piano, she finally decided to fully commit herself to art.

Young started out painting her favorite subjects, such as her family, trees, rocks, things in nature. Then, she began to incorporate collages, as a way to enhance her paintings. Soon the painterly collage took over and became her signature medium, garnering great responses and awards. Lately, her collages have become more sculptural and experimental. Finding beauty and harmony in most unexpected way from items soon to be discarded, while reducing waste and recycle are important aspects of her artistic life.
