The Art of Transformation

I am a passionate abstract fluid art artist. My main medium is acrylic. Optionally finishing my paintings with varnish or resin. I like combining multiple techniques to receive the desired results. I also use the acrylic paint, mica powder and alcohol ink directly to resin creating an abstract ocean wave paintings.

Born in the vibrant architectural capital of Tbilisi, Georgia, Janna Arutyunyan inherited a passion for art and expressed herself through creative outlets such as painting, caricature, poetry, writing for her school paper, and fashion design at the Tbilisi Fashion Academy. This fueled her entrepreneurial spirit in starting her business as a fashion designer in Georgia in the 80’s. In 1991, Janna immigrated to the US in pursuit of the “America Dream” continuing her studies in Management as a single parent of 3 young children. Although, Janna calls Los Angeles her new home, with her passion for travel and adventure, Janna developed a greater appreciation for cultural enrichment.

In 2018, a dear friend Artist Liana Voskanyan @colorfulinceptions invited Janna to an art showcase featuring acrylic fluid paintings and at 55 years young, a new passion for mixed media emerged. Janna immediately began researching and education herself in this field and soon after, took steps to develop her own style of three-dimensional floral paintings and birthed what is now “Janna Passion Art.” In the past 2 years, Janna has challenged herself in mastering new techniques such as “blooming effect” and has pursued studies under the tutelage of Australian artist Shelee Carruthurs. Applying her newfound knowledge, Janna finds innovative methods to paint without brushes, including the utilization of household items such as craft sticks, pins, toothpicks, straws, yarn, water bottles and paper towels. Best known for her “Iris Garden” series which was highlighted in her solo exhibit, Janna is dedicated to transforming her serendipitous art therapy hobby into a lifelong passion.

In the past two years, Janna’s artwork has been accepted into several festivals including the Catalina Festival of Art, Calabasas Fine Arts Festival, and Laguna Art-A-Fair. Janna continues participating in Art Walks throughout Southern California. Recently her work was featured at the Art by Inna Gallery, Virtual Lark Gallery, Mar Vista Music & Art Walk, exhibited at the Stay Gallery in Downy, and currently on display at the Catalina Art Gallery in Avalon, CA. In Addition to her fervor for art, Janna also believes in giving back to the community and has donated artwork to multiple silent auctions with proceeds going to the LACPH Student Scholarship and the Catalina Art Association, a non-profit organization raising art scholarship funds for children.

Both my work are especially driven by a need for texture, and feature a level of impasto that indicates a sculptural value. I work with paint, canvas, papier mache, wood and other media to create pieces that do not subsume the materials within the content, but instead make the materials I am using part of the subject matter. Whether abstract or figurative, my work will often integrate tactility into a design or pattern, but it is not the product of a conscious or intellectual plan. No one said this better than the art critic Tony Cavanaugh, who wrote that I create "with an intuitive feeling, as though the imagery springs directly from the artist's unconscious in the manner of automatic writing." Another way of saying this is that my work comes from a part of my psyche that is hidden from me. Or more recently this is a side of myself I find when it is as if I have entered a magical forest, or a magical forest that is always waiting for me; a forest that as Baudelaire says, is filled with things that “look at me with familiar eyes.”

Meg Boe Birns is an artist, poet, and literary critic living and working in the East Village. She has studied privately with Lenora Shargo of the Maryland Institute of Art, Henry Pearson of The New School and Pennsylvania Academy of Art, and has also been a student in a number of art classes at The New School. She has exhibited her work in a variety of venues in and around New York City, including the Small Works at the Washington Square East Gallery, the TNC Gallery, the Ridge Street Gallery, the Lynn Prince Gallery, and the Art for Healing Gallery. Her drawings have been published in the Art Times, Collages and Bricolages, The Creative Woman and on the cover of the premiere issue of I, The First Person. She has been given awards by the Rockland Center for the Arts and the National Art League.

“EliZe” da Jose – Artist Statement

I understand art as a way of emotionally experiencing reality and a universal language of

communication.

Without conscious e?ort and thought, I try to fill my paintings with expressions strong

enough to let the spectator feel the energy put in the depth of the canvas, transforming the

perception of picture into his own art act.

Most recently, I find myself inspired to focus on developing and exploring the connection

between iconography and abstraction in light of Cosmism philosophy. The inspiration of

this uniquely blended style came about as briefly explained in the following.

I believe that abstract painting was and still is an artist’s attempt at capturing and

expressing Plato's world of ideas which is invisible to the earthly eyes. Then, at the

beginning of the 20th century came the avant-gardism of Filonov and Malevich which was a

rebellion against physicality, materialism and petty-bourgeois consumption.

Iconography takes its roots from the symbiosis of antique vivid imagery and spiritual

practices of Ancient Egypt. From ancient times to the present day, man has never stopped

asking himself questions about who he is and what his true role in this world is.

My newfound unique style of blending iconography and abstract painting is somehow an

endeavour to continue humanity’s perennial e?ort and desire to capture and express the

depth of the invisible world via visible materials, to have a glimpse of the heavenly realm via

earthly instruments, akin to Plato and Malevich’s line of thinking.

In my work, I try to find an image of the elusive other shore - where every soul aspires to go -

and trying to find artful means to communicate what is di?icult to express in words.

ELIZAVETA DAJOSE (Artist Name: Elize)

Elize daJose is a professional artist, sculptor, iconographer and illustrator.

Her artworks primarily consist of a unique blend of abstract art and icon painting, experimenting with various materials, although her favorite media remain acrylic painting and ceramics.

Born in Moscow, Russia, her life as an artist started at a very young age. One day on a snowy street in her hometown, she bought Kazimir Malevich’s book from a peddler which turned her consciousness upside down and defined her entire life path.

From 1996 to 2000, she religiously undertook painting, sculpture, and graphics in various workshops of Moscow artists.

Since 2001, she has been working in the creative workshops of the Babushkinsky Sculpture Combine and in 2002, she became a member of the Moscow Union of Artists, sculpture section.

From 2002 to 2010, she actively participated in group exhibitions at the Central House of Artists, Gallery on Kuznetsky Most, Darwin Museum, and Timiryazev Museum.

In 2010, she participated in the Annual Art Juried Competition in Los Angeles, CA, and became a laureate.

In 2011, she took part in the collective exhibition "Woman Day Art Exhibits" at the Pacific Design Center, Los Angeles, CA, and in 2012 she had a solo exhibition "Three Artists" at Liz Loft Gallery, LA, CA.

In 2016, Elize moved to California and actively participated in collective exhibitions, including the "Summer Exhibit" at Bergamot Station Art Center in Santa Monica (2016), "Brain Art Event" at Lark Gallery/The Chiari Project in West Hollywood (2017), and "The Art of Transformation" at Brick & Mortar Loiter Galleries in Long Beach (2023), among many others.

In 2025, Elize was awarded the Silver Medal at the New York International Art Juried Competition, "The Light from the Other Shore."

In 2026, an essay featuring Elize's creativity and spiritual development was published in the book "Revelations of the Artist - Deep Calls to Deep", curated by ArtServe International.

Elize is an active member of the Los Angeles Art Association and Riverside Community Arts Association. She is currently represented by Lark Gallery in West Hollywood and Literary Engineers, LLC in Benicia, CA.

While I still love the challenge of portrait work, a more animated portrayal of the female image has become my trademark. My "feminine spirits" have evolved from fairies, yogis and mermaids to women with attitude (the girlfriend's series)..all symbolizing the inner strength and grace of the female, regardless of culture, age or occupation. My paintings often evoke a smile or a chuckle, as the viewer can often see elements of themselves in each.

I was exposed to the world of visual art at young age, in my birthplace, Melbourne, Australia. My mother painted in oils and sculpted, and she often encouraged me to paint along with her. After high school, I went to Ontario College of Art in Canada, where my focus was fine art. I had intended to carry on in my education to become a medical illustrator (as I also had an interest in health care), however I got sidetracked and moved to the Bahamas. There, I married and had two little girls. During my six years on the island, I painted in watercolor and sold my work through local tourist galleries. I eventually moved back to Canada and became absorbed with the demands of everyday life. In the last 15 years, I have been fortunate to have the time to delve more deeply into my art and yoga career. I believe that my diverse life experiences (relationships, travel, career changes and personal interests) are represented in my paintings. My style is considered "whimsical" ....a reflection of my thoughts, dreams and hopes for a happier world. My work can be seen in galleries, restaurants, spas and yoga studios in Canada and the USA.

Art is my way of life

Mark Pol, born 17th October 1943 in The Hague has found an early passion for painting. His interest in drawing and painting started in primary school. And later on he went to the Photo Academy followed by the Free Academy of Art led by George Lampe, both in The Hague.

The work of Mark Pol, also shown on his website (http://www.markpol.nl), is in essence inspired by daily human life, without losing its vulnerability and the animal unpredictability. Despite the timeframe the painting or drawing might seem to be in, humanity is key in his work.

In the early stage of a painting, Mark Pol draws his thoughts and dreams with a pencil and then continues his vision with a basis of oil - or acryl paint on canvas. The expression of Mark Pol are often too much for the two dimensional canvas and the result is a three dimensional world, shown in different materials.

Suzie Soyon Koh: Artist Statement

I find my inspiration in nature. I believe appreciation of nature is universal and art is a common

language. My personal goal is to create art that communicates a feeling of inner peace and

tranquility and allow the paintings to resonate and connect each viewer to a place of their own

memory or imagination.

For me, painting is a meditative process where it takes me to a space where I can unclutter my

mind. A mindful practice of applying one brush stroke at a time, defining meaning through

every color, texture and shape that emerges on a canvas

I am an Asian-American Contemporary Artist based in Orange County, California.

I find my inspirations in nature. I believe appreciation of nature is universal and art is a common language. I was born in Seoul, South Korea where I spent most of my childhood, then moved to Southern California.

My dual cultural views are source of my inspiration and are reflected in expressing my art.

In my most recent collective work, I combine traditional Korean brush painting elements with contemporary interpretations. Through a layering of ink-wash and brush calligraphic delineation, I strive to reveal the harmonious beauty and meditative sense of peace and simplicity of Asian landscape paintings.

My public sculpture has often involved the creation of virtual movement through the switching and dimming of light modules within the piece. These pieces are kinetic in that they appear to move with a smooth action.

I have worked a lot in neon and more recently with LED lighting. The electronics that control the lighting elements animate the structure and give it the impression of movement. I have often tied these control systems to some kind of environmental factor, i.e. the movement of people in the vicinity, the wind or the light in the area. These factors are captured through electronic sensors and then translated by the control system into programming signals that change the behavior of the sculpture.

I am fascinated by structures that are geometric and yet organic, much in the way that a sunflower is both of those things at the same time. I look for these kinds of forms and patterns in nature and try to translate these into sculptural forms and into lyrical motion patterns, something hard to show convincingly in still images. At times I have also used music as another elements that will run alongside the visual motion of the work.

I generally work with a small but highly talented team of electronic engineers, mechanical and structural engineers, electronic engineers, lighting designers and specialist fabricators, when the project is too large for me to build myself. I have always loved technology and relish the opportunity to use it as a tool in the creation of an

Philip Vaughan

Philip was brought up in France the son of English parents and went to boarding school in England at the age of 9.

Philip studied architecture at Cambridge and then transferred to art school graduating from Chelsea School of Art.

While doing graduate research at Northumberland Polytechnic art school, Philip completed his first large public kinetic sculpture, the 48ft tall Neon Tower erected on the roof of the Hayward Gallery in 1972 on London?s South Bank Art Centre.

He worked for some years teaching at the City of London University while he experimented with inflatables and kinetics

Philip sailed to the US in a boat that he built himself, arriving in 1980. He now keeps that boat in Channel Islands harbor. He lives in Altadena and Oxnard, working on sculpture, drawings, paintings and public art commissions.

Most recently Philip has been building large steel sculptures at the Buffalo Creek Art Center in northern Nevada and working on neon works and paintings in his Altadena studio.
